Vanesha Mistry - President
I am a Senior majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish. While also being President of the Pre-dental club, I am involved in Delta Epsilon Mu, The American Student Dental Association, and I am currently working at a dental office gaining priceless experience and love for dentistry. I have chosen dentistry because I appreciate the work and dedication dentists give to their patients. Dentists become an integral part of the community, and I hope to do the same in the future as a dentist. Being apart of the pre-dental club at UIC has helped me tremendously by connecting me with others who have the same goals as I do and providing me with countless volunteer opportunities. Most importantly, I truly have met some lifelong friends through PDC at UIC!
Sandra Koch - Vice President
Teeth, gums, and toothbrush enthusiasts are what I envisioned when I first heard about Predental Club. When I joined, my viewpoint changed; UIC PDC consisted of possibilities and opportunities. My active involvement allowed me connect with driven individuals, expand my knowledge about the field of dentistry, and engage in rewarding volunteer experiences. As I enter my senior year, PDC has enhanced my excitement to become a dentist and increased my motivation to keep working hard and realistically toward my goal. Shadowing at numerous dental offices has taught me that dentists provide more than just a smile to their patients--they provide the empathy and care to live a healthy life, which is truly admirable.
Fun fact: I never had a cavity in my life.
Naimeh Issa - Treasurer
I am a senior majoring in Biology here at UIC. Working in a dental office has helped me confirm that being a dentist is the right choice for me. It has given me the opportunity to experience the profession in an authentic setting. I spend the majority of my time striving to be an active member in my community. Working with the youth in the community has helped me find my voice and take something that I believe in and be an activist in shaping the future. Working with young girls to help empower them to believe in themselves and their dreams is a goal that I aspire to. My activism is the voice of change that I would like to see in all girls. I believe that this experience will help me be more compassionate towards others in dental school and beyond. What the experiences have in common, is that they all require a team effort. I am prepared to be a team player, to learn and grow, and achieve my dreams. Being a part of Pre-Dental club has motivated and inspired me to keep striving for my dream of becoming a dentist. Everyone has the same goal and they are willing to help push every single one of us to achieve that dream.
Scott Bicknell - Secretary
I am a junior majoring in biology with a psychology minor. I have wanted to be an orthodontist ever since I started shadowing my uncle as well as a dentist when I was a senior in high school. I have chosen dentistry because restoring oral health and quite possibly improve someone’s lifestyle is a life-changing experience. So, I immediately applied to UIC because of the amazing opportunities they have to offer. The Pre-Dental Club gives students a vast amount of exposure to the outside world of dentistry, which is why I encourage anyone in the dental field to learn about the club. I went to every meeting that I could go to my freshmen and sophomore year, and it was a continuous learning experience. I enjoy doing extra-curricular that give me experience towards running my own practice, which is why I am an Honors College Ambassador, as well as doing research at the College of Dentistry. Hope to see everyone at the meetings and events!
